Bodystat QuadScan 4000

QuadScan 4000 measures impedance at four frequencies using adhesive electrodes. Alongside estimated fat and fat-free mass, it reports body-water compartments, resistance, reactance and phase angle. Testing is supine; the operator enters height and weight.

What the results tell you

QuadScan 4000 adds estimated intracellular and extracellular water and electrical variables including phase angle to its body-composition results. Its four frequencies are 5, 50, 100 and 200 kHz. Water and composition values are model-based estimates; resistance and reactance describe electrical tissue properties. Phase angle is neither a standalone health score nor a direct count of healthy cells.

How the test works

Testing is supine with adhesive electrodes on the hand and foot. The operator measures or enters weight and height and positions you and the contacts according to the manual. Electrical tissue properties are recorded and interpreted using the relevant model. Electrode placement and rest before recording matter for repeatability; contact location is not a trivial detail.

When the test is useful

Supine testing is an alternative to a standing scale and can form part of professional nutrition assessment. Tracking requires the inputs and conditions as well as the final fat percentage. A professional can relate electrical and calculated values to your question. The analyser alone cannot prescribe diet or treatment or explain altered body water.

Preparing for your visit

Follow the location’s instructions for meals, exertion and rest. Keep timing, hydration and position similar at follow-up, and record updated weight or height correctly. Another brand’s preparation instructions do not replace this model’s manual. Tell the location about electronic implants and circumstances affecting testing; it assesses suitability.

Reading results and understanding limitations

Electrical measurements and calculated composition are different kinds of result. Estimates depend on equations, inputs and hydration. Short-interval changes may reflect water and routine variability. Readings from different devices cannot automatically form one trend. Unusual values require assessment context rather than an automatic diagnosis from one number.

Choosing a testing location

For water or phase angle, ask about professional interpretation. Extra numbers are useful when the operator can relate them to your question.

Frequently asked questions

What should I ask when I need water and phase angle analysis?

For water or phase angle, ask about professional interpretation. Extra numbers are useful when the operator can relate them to your question.

Can I compare results from another device?

They are not automatically one trend. Models can use different equations and procedures; establish a new baseline when changing instruments.
