Tanita BC-545
BC-545 InnerScan is a body-composition scale with personal-profile memory. Its manual describes fat and muscle-mass results and graphs for tracking change. This is the original BC-545; specifications from later BC-545N or BC-545F models are not transferred.
What the results tell you
The original BC-545 InnerScan estimates fat and muscle and offers daily, weekly and monthly graphs. Memory for four people separates user histories. A graph shows numerical trends without identifying their cause. Ask which outputs are whole-body and which are regional; features of BC-545N and BC-545F cannot be attributed to the original device simply because the names look similar.
How the test works
You stand barefoot on the platform and, where provided, hold the hand contacts as instructed. The analyser records electrical impedance and uses equations with weight and other inputs to estimate composition. Fat and muscle are not separately weighed. Contact, posture and correctly entered height are part of the procedure.
When the test is useful
BC-545 memory and graphs support longer-term tracking when the correct personal profile is selected. Daily graph fluctuations alone do not establish fat changes. Record conditions and look at longer trends. Planning food or exercise benefits from discussing specific outputs rather than simply inspecting a curve.
Preparing for your visit
Obtain preparation instructions for the exact model and keep the time of day similar. Meals, exercise and hydration can affect results, making a post-workout reading poorly comparable with a rested visit. Maintain your usual hydration and record changed circumstances. Discuss electronic implants and other restrictions with the location using the device manual before testing.
Reading results and understanding limitations
BIA is an indirect estimate dependent on the model and conditions. A small change can reflect water or routine variability rather than fat loss. Results from different instruments are not a single interchangeable series. More frequencies or outputs alone do not establish greater accuracy. A report is not a standalone diagnosis, and estimated muscle quantity does not measure strength.
Choosing a testing location
Confirm the original designation without N/F and how your history is retained. Use in a study documents the method, not suitability for every clinical situation.

Frequently asked questions
What should I check if the device says BC-545N or BC-545F?
N/F are different variants; this profile describes the original BC-545. Confirm the original designation without N/F and how your history is retained. Use in a study documents the method, not suitability for every clinical situation.
Can I compare results from another device?
They are not automatically one trend. Models can use different equations and procedures; establish a new baseline when changing instruments.
