Tanita RD-545HR

RD-545HR uses dual-frequency segmental BIA with a handle and app connection. It provides fat, muscle and regional results as well as heart rate. HR distinguishes it from the original RD-545; a scale’s bone-mass estimate is distinct from bone densitometry.

What the results tell you

RD-545HR combines regional fat and muscle estimates with body water and heart rate, with app-based tracking. Two frequencies and hand-and-foot contacts describe the measurement approach, without guaranteeing better results for every person. HR distinguishes the model from RD-545. A scale’s estimated bone mass does not provide bone-density information equivalent to a DXA examination.

How the test works

You stand barefoot on the platform and, where provided, hold the hand contacts as instructed. The analyser records electrical impedance and uses equations with weight and other inputs to estimate composition. Fat and muscle are not separately weighed. Contact, posture and correctly entered height are part of the procedure.

When the test is useful

RD-545HR combines regional tracking with app access. Decide which outputs you follow and keep preparation consistent. Heart rate is a separate metric, not evidence of fat-estimation accuracy. Performance questions may require a functional test; regional muscle estimates alone do not explain strength or endurance improvements.

Preparing for your visit

Obtain preparation instructions for the exact model and keep the time of day similar. Meals, exercise and hydration can affect results, making a post-workout reading poorly comparable with a rested visit. Maintain your usual hydration and record changed circumstances. Discuss electronic implants and other restrictions with the location using the device manual before testing.

Reading results and understanding limitations

BIA is an indirect estimate dependent on the model and conditions. A small change can reflect water or routine variability rather than fat loss. Results from different instruments are not a single interchangeable series. More frequencies or outputs alone do not establish greater accuracy. A report is not a standalone diagnosis, and estimated muscle quantity does not measure strength.

Choosing a testing location

Ask whether results are available without your own app and who explains regional findings. For a bone examination, choose an actual bone-densitometry service.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own app, and does its bone estimate replace DXA?

Ask whether results are available without your own app and who explains regional findings. For a bone examination, choose an actual bone-densitometry service.

Can I compare results from another device?

They are not automatically one trend. Models can use different equations and procedures; establish a new baseline when changing instruments.
